We are happy to report that Miriam and Dinger arrived safely and are enjoying their time in the UK, despite the shock of the weather! We are all looking forward to the coming weeks and have some great things planned. Please do join us at Oak Grove Chapel on the 4th November at 7pm if you are able. Watch this space for reports of how everything is going and thanks everyone for your interest!
Less than a week to go now and the diary is filling up – Miriam and Dinger will be busy when they are in the UK! If you live in Norfolk, why not come and join us at Oak Grove Chapel on Sunday 4th November at 7pm to hear their testimony and enjoy coffee and cake! We hope to see many people there from different churches, come along and bring a friend! If you can’t make it, please get in touch, we would love to see you if you are not in the diary already!
We are very pleased to announce that Miriam and Dinger are coming to England!! They arrive on the 24th October and will be with us until the 29th November. During that time they will be travelling to Bristol, Wales and Scotland to share about the work of Hope and Song to Freedom. They will also be catching up with friends in Norfolk and meeting new people. It will also be a break from their busy routine in Lima and Dinger’s first time on British soil! We hope to see as many of you as possible and will organise different events while they are here. Please do get in touch and help make their stay a really enjoyable one!
Children in the UK have gone back to school (or started school) this week. It is something we take for granted: you reach a certain age and you go to school! In Peru education is a luxury. Sometimes parents have the tough choice of deciding which child to send to school as they simply cannot afford for all their children to be educated. After making it through primary and possibly secondary there are more tough issues: can my son/daughter study for a career which will help us get out of poverty? The challenges are many. At HSF we think about the prisoners’ children and those in the Happy Hearts Club. How can we help so many with limited resources? We need wisdom! Please remember us at this time, as school matters are on people’s minds. In Peru the new year starts in April, so children haven’t gone back now like ours, nevertheless….If any of you have some great fundraising ideas we would also love to hear them, so we can do even more!
The long-awaited event starts today and all eyes will be focused on the UK for the next few weeks. Many people from around the globe will be hoping to get a medal. I cannot pretend to understand what would make someone want to achieve great things in sport, but the whole event has made me think about what we want to achieve with HSF. We remain committed to trying our best to make a difference in the lives of those who suffer injustice in a country that is far away geographically, but never distant in our hearts. One day we will get a prize, one that is of more value than any earthly medal could be. In the meantime, we will run the race and be faithful in what we have been called to do….
If you have not already done so, why not like the page on Facebook called zona 2 corazones felices – there you will see clips of the children’s work HSF supports. You don’t need to be able to speak Spanish to watch the children having fun and get a flavour of what happens every Saturday afternoon. The aim of this work, as stated at the top of the page, is ‘to free children from the social crisis and be involved in their development as a whole – spirit, mind and body.

Those of you who are familiar with Peruvian crafts will have seen the weaving the women in Peru do – so many beautiful colours and pretty designs, so many hours of patience and perseverance to create beautiful bags and other goods…I have been thinking of these lately and can’t help thinking God is doing the same with our work. He is allowing so many connections to be made with different people and organisations with whom we can partner on this journey of bringing help to the poor and fighting injustice. Please join us in praying that the finished article will be something of beauty that brings glory to Him!

As we celebrate the Jubilee and think about Great Britain at this time, I am happy to reflect on the role the British have played and are playing in the work of Hope and Song to Freedom! How amazing that God chose us, all the way over here, to make a difference in the lives of those so far away from our own country! And of course it is not just people from England who are making a difference over there – recently Miriam has been able to welcome Welsh and Scottish people onboard! So now we just need some help from the Irish – any offers out there? As we celebrate our monarch, we also rejoice that the King of Kings is not confined to Britain or any nation, He is there for us all and we serve Him with joy!
